OUR HISTORY

My husband George brought me to the Texas Cafeteria - 2400 North Shepherd - back in September 1965. The minute I walked in I freaked out. Here was this place with dirty counters, 8 bar stools, 4 tables & chairs, 4 booths on one side. The steamtable in the middle and a dining room with tables and chairs and mirrors on the walls.

"We thank you for your patronage!"

My husband saw the expression on my face and said, "Don't look at it now, we will clean it up before we open it up." We put on new counters, scrubed the floors, cleaned all the ashtrays, pepper shakers, tables, chairs and mirrors.

The next question was where we'd get the money to buy the place. Everyone thought we were crazy. No one would loan us the money. Thanks to my Uncle in Alabama, we borrowed the money.

We worked seven days a week, 365 days a year for 3 years 'til we paid my Uncle back.

We then closed on Sundays and all holidays to spend time with our children, family and to rest.

We had a fire in the cafeteria and were closed for 6 weeks. The landlord fixed it up and we continued. In 1971, we talked him into building our cafeteria.

We bought the property from him in 1984 and the rest is history. We are now 44 years and counting.

We now provide catering services for that special occassion, company party or just because you may not want to cook. You may use our Texas Banquet Hall or we can serve on site.
